Jon Brady made half a dozen changes for the Cobblers trip to Ipswich Town in the Papa John’s Trophy.

The League 1 side started strongly and took the lead on 11 minutes, Marcus Harness heading home via the foot of the post.

Jonny Maxted made a smart save to deny Kyle Edwards but it wasn’t long before Harness doubled his tally with a close range finish from a corner.

Kieron Bowie fired a shot just wide from the edge of the area and Louis Appere had a shot blocked by Kane Vincent-Young as the Cobblers looked to pull a goal back.

It was Ipswich though who struck again on 26 minutes, Greg Leigh heading home at the back post.

Marc Leonard and Ali Koiki came on in a double change for the second half, replacing Kieron Bowie and Harvey Lintott.

Maxted denied Freddie Ladapo with his legs as Ipswich pressed for a fourth goal which duly arrived just before the hour-mark, centre-back Cameron Burgess heading into the corner.

Liam Cross, Peter Abimbola and Josh Tomlinson all got some game time as the second half continued.

George Edmundson headed in to make it 5-0 before making a terrific goal-line clearance to deny Appere.

Ladapo then added a sixth in stoppage time to add further gloss to the scoreline.
