Jon Brady, fresh from being named the Sky Bet League 2 manager of the month for March, named an unchanged starting XI for the Good Friday game at Newport County. Danny Hylton, sidelined since January, was back amongst the substitutes.

Mitch Pinnock had a shot deflected behind and Harvey Lintott headed wide from a corner in an encouraging start from the Cobblers while Newport were forced into an early change with Declan Drysdale coming on for the injured James Clarke.

Louis Appere found the side netting after making a strong run into the opposition box and Ryan Haynes fired just over from 25-yards as the Cobblers continued to press for the opening goal. They were dealt a further injury blow just before the half hour mark however when Aaron McGowan was unable to continue and had to be replaced by Akin Odimayo.

Aaron Wildig drew the first save of the game from Lee Burge before Joe Day saved from Pinnock following a neat one-two with Marc Leonard.

With half-time approaching it was Newport who made the breakthrough, Omar Bogle scoring from close range on the follow-up from a free kick.

Will Hondermarck, on for Jack Sowerby, made a terrific block early in the second half while Sam Hoskins went close for the Cobblers, his shot on the stretch from Kieron Bowie’s lay-off going just the wrong side of the post.

Hoskins couldn’t keep his shot down after being teed up by Danny Hylton who was on in a double change with D’Margio Wright-Phillips.

The Cobblers were battling hard but with the 90 minutes almost up Newport were awarded a penalty following a challenge by Harvey Lintott on Will Evans. Omar Bogle stepped up to score his second of the game and effectively seal the three points for Newport who went on to score a third deep in stoppage time, substitute Charlie McNeill beating Burge with a good finish.
