Josh Eppiah made his first start for the Cobblers as boss Jon Brady made one change for the re-arranged home fixture against Barrow. The Leicester City loanee replaced Idris Kanu in the starting XI while Beryly Lubala, signed on loan from Blackpool on deadline day, was named on the bench. Fellow deadline day arrival Louis Appere was not signed in time to feature. Former Cobblers title winner Jason Taylor and Ollie Banks, who had a brief loan spell at Sixfields back in 2014, both started for Barrow.

Paul Lewis headed wide from an Ali Koiki cross and Mitch Pinnock saw a shot spilled by Paul Farman as the Cobblers started to put some pressure on the Barrow goal after a quiet start to the contest. Farman also saved from Sam Hoskins following a surging run down the middle from Shaun McWilliams but neither side was able to make the breakthrough before half-time.

Barrow took the lead six minutes into the second half, Aaron Amadi-Holloway heading in a deep cross at the back post.

A first time volley from Lewis was saved by Farman but with the Cobblers struggling to build up a head of steam boss Jon Brady made a double change, bringing on Danny Rose and Beryly Lubala for his debut.

Rose had a header saved before Idris Kanu came on for Lewis with just under quarter of an hour to play.

McWilliams fired narrowly over and Kanu shot wide and, despite their best efforts in eight minutes of stoppage time, the Cobblers were unable to force a late equaliser, leaving Barrow to claim the victory.
