Lloyd Jones, Mark Marshall and Callum Morton came back into the Cobblers side after being ineligible for the Emirates FA Cup fourth round replay at Derby County in midweek while the fit again Jordan Turnbull was named on the bench for the visit of Port Vale.

David Worrall fired an early warning shot for the visitors and Scott Brown saved Marshall’s header in an even start to the contest.

Jones, on his home debut, saw a shot blocked behind, a tantalising cross from Sam Hoskins just evaded Morton and Nicky Adams tested Brown from 20-yards as the Cobblers pressed for the opening goal, Charlie Goode also agonisingly close to connecting with a sumptuous Adams free-kick.

Port Vale had a chance to take the lead in first half stoppage time from a free-kick of their own but Richard Bennett couldn’t keep his header down and the first half ended goalless.

Morton found the side netting, Vadaine Oliver headed wide and Adams also went close at the start of the second half.

The Cobblers were building up a good spell of pressure and it needed a spectacular save from Brown to deny Hoskins the opening goal.

David Cornell saved comfortably from James Gibbons in a rare opening for Vale before Oliver forced Brown into another smart stop after being played in by Marshall.

With 72 minutes on the clock the deadlock was broken and it was Port Vale who took the lead, David Worrall on the end of a dangerous Conlon cross to head home from close range.

Brown made another fine save to keep out a well-struck volley from Adams as the Cobblers mounted an immediate response to falling behind but despite some late pressure they couldn’t force an equaliser and Vale held on for the victory.

BUYING OR COLLECTING TICKETS ON SATURDAY? DETAILS HERE

7 February 2020

Tickets for Saturday's game against Port Vale at the PTS Academy Stadium (3pm kick off) are now on sale from the ticket office and ntfcdirect.co.uk

Some of the expected pre-match activities in the build up to Saturday's game are detailed below. Please note these are all subject to change but are designed to give anyone visiting us an idea of the sort of activities that take place:

The turnstiles open at 1.30pm, and from that time, on the West Stand concourse, we will have the FIFA GAMEZone in operation.

Over at the East Stand, the Grange Mortgages family area, including the Buddies USA food kiosk, will be open. This is designed for our junior supporters and their companions where youngsters can enjoy taking part in a range of activities such as our basketball hoop, penalty shootout, table tennis (weather permitting), face painting, free fruit and you can meet first team players and Clarence! You can access this area from walking around the back of the Sheinman Opticians Stand and follow the sign posts, clearly marked, or just listen for the noise! In fact, the Grange Mortgages family area can be accessed via the East Stand, whichever stand you have a ticket for!

We also have our own Nanny Hazel on hand to ensure everyone has a great time and stays safe!

Here’s a typical matchday timetable:-
1.30pm Grange Mortgages Family Area opens
1.45pm Meet Clarence the Dragon
2pm Meet NTFC players for signings and autographs.

For those slightly older, the Fans Village is open behind the Sheinman Opticians Stand at every home game.

The Fans Village, which offers a choice of food and drink, can be accessed by entering the stadium through a turnstile and then walking behind the Sheinman Opticians Stand into the fenced area.

Sheinman Opticians Stand turnstiles and the West Stand turnstile in the north corner will open around 2 hours before kick off to allow access to the village, with a valid match ticket required to enter both the stadium and the Fans Village.

After the game the bars will be closed, but Carr's Bar will be open for supporters to relax and enjoy a drink.

The FIFA GameZone will also be open on the West Stand concourse before the game.

Whatever your choice of pre-match activity, there is plenty happening ahead of kick off.
