After a two week break from league action the Cobblers made the long trip to Exeter. Matt Crooks and Sam Foley remained amongst the absentees but there was a return on the bench from injury for both Ash Taylor and Shay Facey.

David Cornell comfortably saved an early Jake Taylor effort while Billy Waters fired over from 20-yards.

Just before a quarter of an hour had been played, Jake Taylor found the bottom corner from just inside the area to put the home side in front.

The Cobblers responded well and were back on terms when Billy Waters started and ended a swift counter-attack. Waters applied the finishing touch after first picking up the ball from an Exeter corner and playing in Sam Hoskins whose initial shot lead to a scramble in the box.

A bullet header from van Veen was straight at Christy Pym with Jayden Stockley going close for Exeter. Stockley wouldn’t have to wait long for a goal though and his header in off the far post had the Grecians back in front before half-time.

Keith Curle made a double change at the break, bringing on Facey and Taylor for Odoffin and Turnbull.

Aaron Pierre went close with an overhead kick following a more subdued start to the second half. The Cobblers were still very much in the game though and with twenty minutes to go Andy Williams came on for van Veen.

Waters saw a shot blocked at close range, possibly by the hand of an Exeter player as the Cobblers forced a couple of corners in quick succession. Stockley curled just wide for Exeter before Waters failed to work Pym in the Grecians goal after some neat Cobblers build up play.

The clock was ticking but the Cobblers weren’t done and, under pressure from Andy Williams, Jayden Stockley headed in beyond his own keeper from a David Buchanan corner to make it 2-2 going into injury time. That was how it finished, the Cobblers twice coming from behind to claim a very creditable point.
