JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK BACKS HIS SIDE TO KEEP IMPROVING

The Cobblers boss previews Tuesday's trip to MK Dons

26 September 2017

Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is expecting another tough game as he looked ahead to Tuesday night’s trip to MK Dons.

However, Hasselbaink says his side are learning and are getting better all the time.

“MK Dons are a good footballing side and it’s another difficult game,” he said.

“They had a good win on Friday but we will go there to have a go and try and win the game.

“We are getting better and we are in a process of learning.

“It’s always going to be a work in progress but at the same time we need to win games.

“We are still learning and we need to keep on improving.”

Raheem Hanley replaced Chris Long (hamstring) in the only change to the Cobblers side for the midweek trip to MK Dons. Alex Revell and Daniel Powell lined up against their former club while former Cobblers loanee Lee Nicholls was in goal for the home side.

The Cobblers started brightly, Powell shooting wide and Matt Crooks seeing a shot from distance deflected into the arms of Nicholls in an encouraging opening fifteen minutes.

Gboly Ariyibi went close for the Dons on 37 minutes, his shot whistling just wide of Matt Ingram’s upright. Revell couldn’t keep his shot down towards the end of the first half before Crooks fired a shot into the side netting in stoppage time, injuring himself in the process.

Dean Bowditch replaced Crooks for the second half which began with Powell testing Nicholls in the Dons goal while Ingram tipped over a powerful drive from Aaron Tshibola. Bowditch had a shot saved with Powell just failing to follow-up as the game reached the hour mark.

Sam Hoskins came on for Hanley in the Cobblers second change with the game still very much there for the taking. Having only just come on Hoskins almost immediately set up a chance for Bowditch whose shot was comfortably saved by Nicholls.

Marc Richards came on for the closing stages but despite late Cobblers appeals for a penalty on Aaron Pierre and Dons substitute Kieran Agard hitting the side netting the sides couldn’t be separated and the game ended goalless.
