JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK LOOKING FOR SIXFIELDS RESPONSE

Cobblers boss on working together

23 November 2017

Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has stressed the importance of working together as he prepares his squad to face Bury at Sixfields on Saturday.

After three successive league wins, the Cobblers suffered defeats against Scunthorpe United and Plymouth Argyle, and Hasselbaink wants his side to bounce back this weekend.

“We need to regroup and we need to try and get a positive result,” he said.

“We are in a difficult little period again now and we need to try and switch that back to find the momentum we had a couple of weeks ago.

“The team is creating chances but every missed chance seems to knock our confidence.

“It’s important we don’t worry and overthink that, those chances will go in if we keep working hard and it will come right.

“We need to just keep working hard and find a way to win.

“We’ve lost the last two games together and we are going to try and get better together.”

Leon Barnett, Shaun McWilliams and Marc Richards all came into the side as boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink made three changes following the midweek defeat at Plymouth. Nathan Cameron and Michael Smith, two former Cobblers loanees, both started for Bury.

Matt Crooks tested Leo Fasan in the Bury goal early on before the game settled down. Brendan Moloney’s inch-perfect cross presented Marc Richards with a chance midway through the first half but his flicked effort didn’t quite have enough power on it to beat Fasan.

The Cobblers were building up some momentum and Crooks went close with a shot just over the bar after Regan Poole’s initial effort had been blocked.

Fasan got a touch to turn behind a Matt Grimes free-kick as the game neared half-time with Leon Barnett Heading narrowly wide from the subsequent corner.

Bury blocked close range efforts from Chris Long and Marc Richards before Rohan Ince had a chance to put the visitors in front on the break, only to be denied by a great save from Matt Ingram. Ince was again thwarted by the Cobblers keeper after breaking from midfield to get his shot away.

Long speared a shot just wide as the Cobblers again went close to breaking the deadlock, Crooks also failing to find the target when well-placed in front of goal.

Michael Smith’s looping header looked like putting Bury in front on 77 minutes but Ingram somehow got back to make a terrific goal line clearance.

There were no real chances for either side after that and the game ended goalless.
