IMPROVED MENTALITY PLEASES COBBLERS BOSS AHEAD OF SILEBY FRIENDLY
Justin Edinburgh previews the opening pre-season friendly
7 July 2017
Justin Edinburgh is looking forward to seeing a good turn out of Cobblers fans at Sileby Rangers on Saturday (3pm) for the opening pre-season friendly.
“It’s a chance for the fans to see some of the new signings and I'm sure there will be a decent turn out," he said.
“There is always that buzz to see new players and the group back together. It’s been a long time since our last game and I think everybody is craving it. We will play some of the younger players as well on Saturday and it’s a good opportunity to see where they are at.
“It’s an excellent pitch at Sileby, we played some reserve games there last year and we are all really looking forward to Saturday.
“I feel that there is a different dynamic within the group already this season and there is a totally different vibe around the place.
“Standards are high and I’m really excited to see the players on Saturday and then the week away in Spain. It’s going to be a hard week but it’s a chance for everybody to really get to know each other and form a bond.”

Northampton Town made the short trip to Sileby Rangers for the now traditional pre-season curtain raiser at Fernie Fields.
Justin Edinburgh handed starts to summer signings Leon Barnett, Dean Bowditch and Billy Waters as well as Leon Lobjoit, signed from non-league Buckingham Town in March.
Lobjoit and Bowditch were both denied by the Sileby keeper in the opening fifteen minutes while right-back Aaron Philips also went close. Sileby keeper Ollie Reynolds somehow kept out a Barnett header following a Cobblers corner as Edinburgh’s side started to really up the tempo.
Waters, looking a real threat, struck the post on 17 minutes but it wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken, Leon Barnett scoring from close range after Sileby failed to clear a Matt Taylor cross.
Only a goal line clearance prevented birthday boy Marc Richards from doubling the Cobblers lead soon after, the chance for Richards teed-up by Lobjoit.
Marc Richards did make it 2-0 on 33 minutes, heading home at the far post following a ball into the box from Shaun McWilliams.
Daniel Powell, Sam Foley and George Smith, three more of the summer arrivals at Sixfields, all came on for the second half as Justin Edinburgh made a number of changes.
Reynolds continued his good form of the first half to twice deny Powell as the Cobblers looked to increase their lead, Alex Revell and Joe Iaciofano also in amongst the chances.
Sam Foley made it 3-0 with a close range finish after some good link up play involving Powell and Iaciofano.
Joe Iaciofano then made it four, going in bravely to divert the ball under Reynolds, getting himself clattered in the process.
Alex Revell saw a header tipped over before Joe Iaciofano bagged his second of the afternoon and the Cobblers' fifth with a low shot into the net following a well-worked short corner.
Powell curled a shot against the cross bar as the Cobblers continued to attack, looking hungry for more goals.
Sam Foley smashed in a sixth on 73 minutes before Eddie Appleton pulled a goal back for Sileby with a far-post volley.
Daniel Powell rounded the Sileby keeper before finishing to make it 7-1, as the glut of goals continued.
Nat Ansu snaffled a second goal for Sileby before Joe Iaciofano completed his hat-trick with a close range finish on 88 minutes. It was the tenth goal in total of the afternoon as the game finished Sileby Rangers 2 Northampton Town 8.
