Northampton Town signed the former Bolton Wanderers, West Ham United and Burnley left sided midfield player Matt Taylor in August 2016. Taylor began his career at Luton Town before spending six years at Portsmouth, playing over 200 times as Pompey established themselves in the Premier League. A £3.5 million move to Bolton Wanderers followed, and after playing almost 150 times in 3 years, he moved to West Ham United for £2.2 million in 2011. After three years and almost 100 appearances for the Hammers, he moved to Burnley. The 5ft 10in Taylor played 28 times for Burnley in 2015/16 as they won promotion to the Premier League and the Cobblers fought off intense interest from Championship clubs to land Taylor's signature.
