Northampton Town's youth team travelled to Luton Town on Saturday for their latest fixture in the Football League Youth Alliance.

With an eye on Tuesday's FA Youth Cup second round tie against Chesterfield at Sixfields, the Cobblers fielded a side made up of mainly under 16s and lost the game 2-0.

"We had a very young side out but overall I was pleased with the effort from the lads," said coach Sean Parrish.

"The game was played on an astroturf pitch and in tricky weather conditions. Taking that into account we did really well In the first-half and it was 0-0 at half-time.

"Luton put us under the cosh a little bit in the second half but I was disappointed with the goals we conceded and we need to learn from that.

"We had a good chance at 1-0 down to equalise but we didn't take it and at any level of football you have to take your chances when they come along.

"I don't get to see the under 16s that often so it was a good opportunity for me to have a look at some of the players coming through and overall although we didn't get the result we wanted I was pleased with their general performance."
