Northampton Town's youth team welcomed Colchester United to Moulton College on Saturday as they rounded off their Football League Youth Alliance campaign.

Sean Parrish once again fielded a young side with one eye on next season and despite a late goal from Malachi Farquharson the Cobblers ended their league campaign with a 2-1 defeat.

"I was a bit disappointed with the goals we conceded and overall Colchester probably deserved to win the game," reflected youth team coach Parrish.

"We conceded a soft goal just before half-time and then we conceded a second right at the start of the second half.

"That gave us a bit of a mountain to climb, we got a goal back late on but it probably just came a little bit too late.

"We had a young side out and I was pleased with the players efforts but Colchester probably just had that little bit more quality.

"Our league season has finished now but we have still got the County Cup final to come at Sixfields and that is a game we are all looking forward to."
