Northampton Town's youth team welcomed Gillingham to Moulton College on Saturday in the Football League Youth Alliance Cup.
On a windy morning at Moulton College, the Cobblers were beaten 2-0 with a goal coming in each half.
"I was disappointed with aspects of our performance," said coach Sean Parrish.
"Having said that, we did create more than enough chances to have taken something from the game. Had we been a little more clinical in front of goal, the result could have been very different, but we paid the price for not taking our chances."
