Northampton Town's youth team geared up for their FA Youth Cup third round tie against Reading at Sixfields in midweek with a good victory at Colchester on Saturday in the Football League Youth Alliance.

The Cobblers won the game 3-0 with Shaun Goodall's brace adding to a goal from Sam Maude.

"We were pleased with the win but we know it is going to be a much bigger test for us against Reading on Wednesday night," said Cobblers Head of Youth Geoff Harrop.

"The conditions were dreadful but we were just delighted to get the win and to score three goals was also very pleasing.
