Northampton Town's reserves were in action at Sixfields on Tuesday afternoon as they entertained Wycombe Wanderers in the totesport.com combination.

The Cobblers had the ball in the back of the net in just the fifth minute but Joe Benjamin's left-footed drive from the edge of the area was ruled out for apparent an hand-ball, the referee only blowing his whistle once the ball had entered the net.

Michael Jacobs fired in a shot on 23 minutes but Jamie Young reacted well to turn his effort around the post.

Wycombe then took the lead on 35 minutes when Chris Zebroski beat the Cobblers off-side trap before slotting the ball home past Simon Brown.

The Cobblers goalkeeper was then called into action again on 41 minutes, doing well to tip over a left-footed drive from Kadeem Harris.

The Cobblers had strong penalty appeals waved away a minute before the break despite Luke Oliver appearing to haul down Gary Mulligan.

Mulligan was then denied on the cusp of half-time when his powerful shot was saved by Young.

The first chance of the second half came on 56 minutes but Andre Costa's left-footed effort sailed narrowly wide of the post. As the Cobblers continued to look for an equaliser, Liam Ruddick's snap volley from a corner also went inches wide.

Simon Brown then made a good double-save on 59 minutes to twice deny Kadeem Harris. Brown's opposite number was called upon on 63 minutes but he did well to hold onto Alex Dyer's well-struck effort.

Wycombe doubled their lead on 66 minutes when Lewwis Spence's cross-shot was steered home by Ian Westlake.

A chipped cross from Andre Costa on 76 minutes presented an opportunity for Patrick Kanyuka but his header was well saved by Young.

Simon Brown then did well on 85 minutes to save a deflected effort from John Mousinho while Luke Oliver sidefooted wide for the visitors in the final effort of the afternoon.
