Northampton Town's reserves were in totesport.com combination action on Wednesday afternoon as they welcomed Norwich City to Sixfields.

Coach Sean Parrish named a young second string Cobblers side while veteran strike Paul McVeigh and Jamie Cureton lined up for Norwich.

After a quiet opening the Cobblers took the lead on 26 minutes, Liam Ruddick played a long through ball to Seb Harris who did well to hold off the attention of the Norwich defence before setting up Joe Benjamin who calmly slotted the ball home.

Norwich were soon back on level terms though when on 29 minutes Luke Daley was on hand to tap in the rebound after Paul Walker had done well to save Cody McDonald's fierce initial effort.

The first chance of the second half came on 47 minutes but McVeigh's shot was narrowly too high.

Norwich took the lead on 62 minutes, Jamie Cureton's first-time volley from 25-yards sailing into the top left hand corner of the net.

Tom McGowan fired in a shot on 74 minutes but the Norwich keeper did well to make the save, diving away to his left.

Jamie Cureton wrapped up the scoring on 80 minutes, rolling the ball home after Cody McDonald had beaten the offside trap and squared to his fellow striker.

*The reserve team game with Wycombe Wanderers that was scheduled to be played at Wycombe on Tuesday October 27th will now be played at Sixfields (2pm kick off) with the Cobblers now travelling to Buckinghamshire later in the season.
