The Cobblers reserves ended their season on Wednesday afternoon when they welcomed Stevenage Borough to Sixfields.

Liam Davis and Colin Larkin were both included in Ian Sampson's side which also featured a number of trialists.

The first chance of the game fell to Stevenage on 5 minutes but Jerome Anderson fired his shot over the cross bar. At the other end, Borough keeper Phil Carpenter did well to save a shot from Liam Davis.

The Cobblers took the lead on 14 minutes when Alex Dyer's corner was headed home by Adam Bailey-Dennis.

Joe Benjamin shot just wide on 25 minutes but a minute later it was 2-0, Colin Larkin cutting in well from the left before drilling a low shot beyond Carpenter.

Stevenage were awarded a penalty on 35 minutes when John Martin was adjudged to have been fouled by Adam Bailey-Dennis. Jerome Anderson converted the spot-kick to halve the visitors arrears.

Liam Davis nearly restored the Cobblers two goal lead almost straight away but after a searing run down the left his powerfully driven shot was well kept out by Carpenter.

A delightful through ball from Alex Dyer played in Joe Benjamin on 39 minutes but one-on-one with the Borough keeper he slid his shot just wide of the post.

The Cobblers were 3-1 up just 20 seconds into the second half when after some clever midfield play Oscar Lubwama's shot at the second attempt beat Carpenter in the visitors goal.

Stevenage pulled a goal back on 57 minutes when John Martin's sweetly struck effort left Paul Walker in the Cobblers goal with no chance.

Gary Frewin then drew Stevenage level on 71 minutes, his low drive beating Walker.

The Cobblers nearly re-took the lead on 74 minutes but Phil Carpenter pulled off a fine double save to deny first Joe Benjamin and then Colin Larkin.

Ian Sampson's side were awarded a penalty on 77 minutes when Joe Benjamin was brought down by Julio Barnes. Benjamin dusted himself down before stepping up to restore the Cobblers lead from the penalty spot.

That was it, and the Cobblers rounded off their totesport.com combination campaign with a 4-3 victory.
