The Cobblers reserves were in action on Wednesday afternoon as they took on Ipswich Town at Sixfields in the totesport.com Combination. Cobblers skipper Chris Doig completed the full 90 minutes after missing the last three first team games through injury.

Greg Taylor was a late omission from the line up after picking up an injury in the warm-up. Former Cobblers loanee Dean Bowditch started for Ipswich.

The Cobblers started brightly and on 5 minutes some good hold-up play from Taylor's replacement, Joe Benjamin, played in Giles Coke on the edge of the penalty area but his shot was well saved by Shane Supple in the Ipswich goal.

Edward Upson turned his marker on 13 minutes but Chris Dunn was well positioned to deal with his close range effort. Ian Henderson then did well on 19 minutes after Supple mis-controlled the ball but his angled effort was cleared off the goal-line by Paul Watson.

Dean Bowditch jinked his way through the Cobblers defence on 41 minutes but when one-on-one with Chris Dunn he fired his shot wide of the target. On the stroke of half-time a corner from Danny Jackman found Giles Coke at the near post but his effort whistled narrowly wide and the teams went off at the break with the scores level at 0-0.

Ian Sampson made a change at half-time with Wes Emery coming on to replace Shawn Richards.

On 50 minutes Shane Supple gathered Ian Henderson's shot from 20-yards before a minute later doing well to deny Joe Benjamin from 12-yards after some good neat build-up play from the Cobblers.

Wes Emery then fired over on 54 minutes after being played in by Benjamin. As the Cobblers continued to press Danny Jackman had an effort deflected just wide.

Ipswich then made their first change on 58 minutes, Paul Murphy replacing Danny Haynes.

Edward Upson then went close for Ipswich but his well-struck effort rattled the outside of Chris Dunn's right-hand post.

The Cobblers made a double change on 65 minutes with Jon Marzetti coming on for Danny Jackman and Michael Jacobs replacing Giles Coke. Ipswich also made a change with Reggie Lambe coming on for Edward Upson.

Alex Dyer nearly broke the deadlock on 87 minutes but his header from Ian Henderson's corner hit the unwitting goalkeeper before bouncing off the cross bar and behind for a corner.

Neither side could conjure up a late goal though and in the end the points were shared as what had been an entertaining game ultimately ended goalless.
