COKE CONTINUES COMEBACK AT CARROW ROAD
Northampton Town's reserves travelled to Carrow Road on Monday evening to meet Norwich City.
Giles Coke continued his comeback from a knee injury, playing 60 minutes before coming off for stitches in a head wound picked up as he made a brave header to set up the Cobblers second goal.
With the FA Cup replay against Darlington at Sixfields on Tuesday, Coke and Alex Dyer were the only professional players to feature.
A more experienced Norwich side went 2-0 ahead, before Wes Emery and then Joe Benjamin pulled the Cobblers level. Benjamin's goal came after Coke's brave header had created the chance, but the former Mansfield midfielder sustained 2 cuts to his head and was withdrawn from the action to have 6 stitches.
Some late goals gave the final score a flattering look for the home side, but Ian Sampson was pleased.
"For obvious reasons we had a very young side out there but the lads can be proud of their efforts," he said.
"Giles Coke was very brave to set up our second goal and he had to come off for stitches but he got through 60 minutes fine. He was only denied a goal himself by a great save from their keeper and it was good to see him getting forward and into their box.
"I was very pleased with the way the lads applied themselves."
