LORD MAWHINNEY LATEST HIGH PROFILE FIGURE TO BACK SIXFIELDS RE-DEVELOPMENT BID
Football League Chairman Lord Brian Mawhinney has become the latest high profile figure to back Northampton Town's bid to re-develop Sixfields Stadium.
In a letter to the West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit, Lord Mawhinney said;
"As the League's Chairman, I admire the work Northampton Town Football Club undertakes with its resident community. Each season, it comes in contact with around 50,000 local children, plus thousands of teenagers and adults who also benefit greatly from working with the club. This work takes many forms, Educational, Social, and Sports based. Examples include the Cobblers Study Centre, the Multi Disabled teams, school visits, female football, and the Street Football Project, helping in deprived areas of the town.
"Given their successful and varied community work, Northampton Town Football Club has our full backing in their bid to re-develop and enhance the Sixfields Community Stadium. We are sure that this re-development and the better facilities this will bring will allow the club to provide even more for the ever growing community of Northampton and the surrounding area.
"We have seen a number of our member clubs across the UK working with local councils to use enabling development for the benefit of the community through the construction of new and enhanced community stadiums. We would be delighted for the public of Northampton if the Cobblers were allowed to follow that lead.
"I am happy to confirm the League's enthusiastic support for Northampton Town's application and the benefits it would bring locally."
