THE COBBLERS AND LXB - PARTNERSHIP AND PROGRESS
Northampton Town Football Club have announced further details of their ongoing partnership with London based property developers LXB Properties.
The football club have been working with the company for the last 18 months to explore solutions to the deadlock over the future of the Sixfields area which has prevented the football club from expanding its stadium and enhancing its facilities.
LXB currently have £25M invested in the Sixfields area and have landholdings at Sixfields of 106,360 sq ft including the Cine 9 screen cinema, Ortega and Canons gym sites. LXB's ambitions are to work with other land owners at Sixfields and find solutions which will unlock the overall potential in the area, provide the district centre needed by those moving into new housing, and at the same time find ways forward which will enable the Sixfields Community Stadium to be enhanced through the process and proceeds.
Tony Clarke, the club's General Manager said, "LXB are serious players in the national property and development scene. Their involvement in our plans is very welcome indeed, but there is a lot to be done before we can be assured of going forward with the development. LXB have been active, as have the other landholders in the area in talking through the options and trying to unlock the site and provide a solution that suits all parties. We all want what is best for the town and the expertise they bring to the table enables us to move forward whilst giving a great deal more comfort to the planners and authorities that we are acting in a proper and sustainable fashion."
Tim Walton, Chief Executive of the LXB Partnership said, "Sixfields is an exciting project for us. To date, the site and the surrounding area has simply evolved in a very haphazard fashion. Our ambition is to bring people together and to develop the area in a more sustainable fashion that meets all the needs of the area and the wider town. High profile community stadia and enhanced sports facilities should form a part of any growing town or cities aspirations. Football however is not our business, and we have no wish to involve ourselves in the day to day business of the Club, but our job is to marry the two together for the benefit of all involved."
David Cardoza, the Club's Chairman said, "My father and I met LXB about two years ago. We are delighted to have an agreement with them which can only be of benefit to the Club, but we also need the other landowners, the council and our colleagues at English Partnerships to work with us to unlock the potential of both the Sixfields area and also provide a sound financial basis for league football in the town."
