The Cobblers signed former Darlington striker Tadhg Purcell on a 2 year deal in June 2010. Irishman Purcell rose through the ranks in his homeland, playing for Kilkenny City and Shamrock Rovers before joining Darlington in January 2010. He made his league debut and scored his first goal in a game against Rotherham United which ended in a 2-1 win for his new club. He ended the 2009/10 season with nine goals in 22 games for the relegated Quakers, but rejected the offer of a new contract in the North East.
