Northampton Town signed Middlesbrough defender John Johnson on a permanent basis in July 2010 following a successful loan the season before. He can play at right-back, centre-back and in midfield and is a graduate from the Boro Academy. Hailing from Middlesbrough, he joined the Riverside club as a scholar in 2005. Johnson signed a professional contract in the summer of 2008 and was heavily involved in Boro's 2008/09 pre-season campaign. He made his first team debut at home to Chelsea in October 2008 and played five games on loan with League One side Tranmere Rovers in December 2008.
