Northampton Town signed former Gillingham striker Gary Mulligan on a one year contract in July 2009. The former Irish under 21 international started his career with Wolverhampton Wanderers before moving to Sheffield United in 2005. In the 2005-06 season he spent time on loan with both Port Vale and Gillingham. His hard-working style impressed then Gills manager Ronnie Jepson and in May 2006 he signed for the Kent club on a permanent basis. In June 2007 Mulligan signed a new contract, keeping him at the Gills until the end of the 2008-09 season.
