Former Sheffield Wednesday left back Peter Gilbert joined Northampton Town in November 2009. He was able to join the club outside of the transfer window as he was a free agent after leaving Oldham. He turned down the offer of a contract at Boundary Park before the transfer window closed in August 2009. Prior to arriving at Sixfields, he had played 150 senior matches for Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester City, Doncaster Rovers and Oldham.
