Northampton Town have signed 19 year old England youth international goalkeeper Jason Steele on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of March.

Standing 6ft 3ins tall, Jason has represented his country at U16, U17, U19 and U20 level. In May 2007 he was a key member of the England U17 team that reached the final of the European Championships in Belgium before being beaten 1-0 by Spain.

His progress was rewarded when he was named in Middlesbrough's first team squad for a pre-season tour of Austria in 2007.

Jason maintained his progress through the 2008-09 season, at the end of which he played an integral part for England U19s as they progressed to the finals of the UEFA European U19 Championships in Ukraine in July 2009 by topping a play-off group. He was captain for England's final two qualifying games.

Jason signed a new, three-year Boro contract in May 2009 and played a leading role as captain of England U19s.

"With the injury to Chris Dunn I feel we need another keeper on our books for the next few weeks," said boss Ian Sampson.

"Jason has a good pedigree and is obviously well known and highly rated by Malcolm Crosby. We are again grateful to Middlesbrough for their help and we hope Jason can help us out and gain some valuable experience at the same time."
