DAVIS AND GUINAN EDGING TOWARDS FITNESS

Posted on: Tue 19 Jan 2010

Ian Sampson says he is desperate to get back to action when the Cobblers make the re-arranged trip to Macclesfield Town on Wednesday night.

"We did some fitness work with the players here at Sixfields on Saturday which is not what the players like but it was the only option we had," he said.

"Liam Davis started running on Friday on the treadmill and hopefully he will be out running on the grass this week.

"Steve Guinan has started running as well so hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will have a fully fit squad to choose from.

"We would like to have both of them in contention as soon as possible because they are both good players but we have got a decent sized squad so we are not pushing them to be back before they are ready.

"Joe Benjamin has gone out on loan to Eastbourne. That was the one enquiry we had and I haven't had any other enquiries about any of my players.

"It's a good opportunity for Joe to play some first team football in a competitive league. Most of the teams in the Conference are full-time and I'm sure he will benefit from coming up against some decent players.

"He played 45 minutes against Cambridge on Saturday but I think he picked up an injury so I will have to check with the physio on that.

"I'm satisfied with the signings I've made so far but we are always looking for players who we think will improve the squad."

The Sixfields Travel Club are running a coach to Wednesday's game. This leaves Sixfields at 4pm and costs £12 adults, £10 concessions. Please call Jenny Parker on 01604 706401 for more information.
