MIXED FEELINGS FOR SAMPSON
Reserve team coach Ian Sampson was disappointed with the attacking performance of his team against Leyton Orient on Tuesday afternoon. although he felt the display of the back four and goalkeeper Frank Fielding was encouraging. The Londoners won the game by a goal to nil.
"It was quite a dull game," said Sampson.
"I think the back four and the keeper did well but going forward we were a bit lacking in quality.
"We probably gave the ball away a bit too often in midfield and we didn't have any real quality in and around the box.
"Our decision making in the final third was lacking in terms of knowing when to cross and when to shoot but those sort of things can be worked on in training.
"We had a very young back four and I think they acquitted themselves very well. They defended well in the first half and when I asked them to come out and play a bit more in the second half they did that as well.
"Frank Fielding came in and did very well and his communication with the back four was excellent.
"The own goal was a bit unfortunate, it was a good ball in and there is no blame at all attached to Jon Marzetti for the goal."
