The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award should go to Northampton Town following their excellent 2-1 away win at Bolton Wanderers, in the second round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday.
Manager Stuart Gray will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be screened on Sky Soccer Saturday.
Adebayo Akinfenwa was Northampton's hero as the League One side shocked Bolton after he put the Cobblers ahead from the spot in the 21st minute and he added a second six minutes later when he headed Abdul Osman's cross beyond Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Bolton had to battle with ten men after Cahill was sent off but Northampton, a side 45 places below Bolton in the league standings went on to deservedly seal a place in the third round. Northampton had nervous moments after Nolan pulled a goal back with eight minutes left, and Heidar Helguson thought he was sending the game into extra-time only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.
