COKE PLEASED WITH GOAL TALLY

Posted on: Tue 01 Apr 2008

Giles Coke says that the Cobblers players will not give up on the play offs until it becomes a mathematical impossibility.

"We would like to think that we can still get into the top six but we know that our chances of doing that are looking pretty slim," he said.

"We've still got five games left though and fifteen points to play for so we will just keep going right until the last game.

"We were poor in the first half on Saturday and all the players would probably have to put their hand up to admit that.

"That happens sometimes but we know our first half performance wasn't acceptable and after a few harsh words from the gaffer at half-time I think we responded well in the second half and we could have even gone on to win the game.

"I don't think any manager would have been happy with our first half performance, the gaffer has got his way of dealing with that and I think you saw in the second half that it worked.

"I was pleased with my goal but I was a bit disappointed that we didn't go on to win the game.

"I thought we should have had a penalty although I was quite a bit away from the incident so I couldn't really say for definite.

"The conditions weren't great on Saturday, it was very windy and it was raining but you have just got to get your head down and adapt to the conditions.

"I still don't think I'm as fit as I can be but obviously I'm really happy with the four goals I've scored.

"As I've said before I think I need to get a good pre-season under my belt but for now I just want to play as many games as possible between now and the end of the season.

"Every season you want to improve upon what you did last season and if we can't get into the play-offs we want to finish higher than 14th in the table which is where Northampton finished last season."
