HENDERSON HOPES WALSALL WIN WILL PROVE CRUCIAL

Posted on: Mon 10 Mar 2008

Ian Henderson hopes that Saturday's win at Walsall could prove to be a key point in the Cobblers season.

"We are definitely in contention for a place in the play-offs but as I've said before we have just got to take each game as it comes," he said.

"I thought we put in a great performance at Walsall on Saturday and Bayo popped up with two great goals.

"I thought I started off OK but towards the end of the first half I wasn't getting hold of the ball enough. In the second half I did a bit better again though and our second goal came from me getting hold of the ball and getting it to Bayo.

"I was out injured at the start of the season which was very frustrating but since I've been back fit the team has been doing well so I couldn't just expect to get back into the side.

"The manager just told me to get my head down in training and work hard which I have done and I got my opportunity on Saturday.

"Overall I was fairly pleased with my own performance at Walsall, I just need to now get a goal to my name and if I can do that hopefully I will get on a run.

"If I keep working as hard as I did on Saturday hopefully I'll get that break in front of goal and it'd be great if that came on Wednesday night at Bristol Rovers.

"Defensively we are looking strong at the moment but the three central defenders are also playing some good football out from the back as well which is a good bonus for us.

"It will be a tough game at Bristol Rovers but if we can put in the same performance on Wednesday night that we did at Walsall hopefully we will come away with the three points.

"We've then got Swansea on Saturday and we feel we owe them one a bit because when we went there earlier in the season we put in a performance that wasn't acceptable.

"Hopefully we will put that right on Saturday but at the moment we are just fully focused on Bristol Rovers."
