BAYO HAPPY TO KEEP SCORING

Posted on: Mon 11 Feb 2008

Saturday's goalscorer Adebayo Akinfenwa was happy to admit that his muscular physique played a direct role in his equaliser.

"It was a good ball across the box from Poul and I just slid in there," he said.

"It's good that I have a big chest because it hit their keeper and bounced back off my chest and went in! I thought we shaded the game and could have won it but we will take the point and look ahead to Yeovil.

"I was pleased to make a good start with my run so soon after coming on to the pitch. I can see my sharpness coming back and I think I am getting sharper and stronger all the time.

"I really don't know how far away I am from full fitness. I played 90 minutes for the reserves last week but however much you try, reserve team football does not have the same intensity as first team football.

"The Gaffer knows I want to play but he is not rushing me and that is fine with me. I am happy helping the team however I can. The Gaffer is very open and is always talking with me and if me coming off the bench helps the team that's fine, although of course I want to start. When that time comes, I will be ready.

"The fans have showed me nothing but love ever since I came here and hopefully I can continue to build on that and make them happy with goals and helping the team get good results.

"Yeovil on Tuesday is a tough place to go. They will be looking to turn their recent results around and they have too much quality to be on a bad run for much longer. Our confidence is high and we have shown we can compete with the best teams in this league and we have to concentrate on getting our performance right.

"We are not too far off the play offs and if we can get on a winning run who knows, but we have to take things one game at a time. We have a young squad here with lots of potential, and who knows where we can go in time?"
