One of the heroes of Saturday's win at Gillingham - defender Brett Johnson - said he enjoyed the victory.

"It was nice to get another win away from home and it was a very enjoyable victory for us," he admitted.

"We had to dig in at times but we worked very hard as a team and I think we did just enough to deserve the win.

"It was a great goal by Daniel Jones but we then should have taken some of the chances we had in the second half. We are working very hard in training on crossing and shooting and I think in the long-term that will pay off.

"I think we defended very well on Saturday but we know we should have killed the game off with the chances we had.

"DJ put the ball in exactly the right spot and I couldn't have been more happy for him. He struck it really well and he got a great whip on the ball.

"It was our first clean sheet in ages and I think we are becoming a lot more solid. To keep a clean sheet is always a great positive to take from any game and hopefully we can now kick on from that.

"Stuart Gray said to me last summer that if I could prove my fitness he'd give me a chance and that is what has happened. I've had to work hard to get my chance but I think I'm improving every game and hopefully I can keep my place in the side.

"For the first two or three games I played in I was struggling a little bit with my fitness but that is really improving now and I am getting through games a lot easier. I wouldn't say it's easy but I'm coping a lot better and I am enjoying every game.

"My contract is up at the end of the month but hopefully I've done enough for that to be extended."
