BOWDITCH HAPPY TO BE AMONG THE GOALS

Posted on: Sun 23 Dec 2007

Dean Bowditch was delighted to open the scoring for the Cobblers in Friday's 4-1 success over AFC Bournemouth.

"I was pleased with my goal on Friday night, it took a bit of a deflection but it went in and that was the main thing," he said.

"I'm here to help Northampton and to hopefully improve my own game at the same time. I've been criticised before for not scoring enough goals so it was nice to get off the mark against Bournemouth and hopefully I can go on from that now.

"I'm enjoying my football here, I had been out for nine months with a big injury and that amount of time out of the game just makes you realise just how important football is.

"Since I've been back from that injury I've just been playing with my heart and hopefully I can just keep on improving now.

"I want to play as much football as I can and if Ipswich don't want to take me back when my loan spell is up I'd love to stay here, I just want to get as many games and goals under my belt as I can.

"We played some decent football against Bournemouth, we were disappointed that we conceded so soon after going 1-0 up but we scored just before half-time and we then went into the break on a high.

"The third goal really got us going and we perhaps could have even scored a couple more goals than the four we did.

"Poul Hubertz has held the ball up really well in the last couple of games and I think he set up two goals on Friday night. He occupied their centre halves really well and he probably deserved a goal to cap off his performance.

"It's going to be a tough game at Doncaster but we've played well in our last couple of away games and if we can play like that again hopefully we will come away with something.

"We got a great win on Friday night and we want to now just keep climbing up the table as quickly as possible."
