BUNN UPSET BY CONTROVERSIAL GOAL

Posted on: Mon 10 Dec 2007

Mark Bunn was convinced that Carlisle's second goal should not have been allowed to stand in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Sixfields.

"They lofted a cross in and I came to claim it," he reflected. "Looking back I should have punched it but I tried to catch it and their player came steaming in. He caught me in the chest with his elbow and that made me lose control of the ball. The referee did not want to talk to me about it when I went to speak to him - he just booked me and ran off.

"We felt we deserved a win - it was good to score late on and get a draw but we could have won. We were very down after Swansea and we wanted to put things right. We were pleased with a draw against Carlisle but we wanted the win.

"I felt I could have done better with their first goal. I anticipated the free kick would go over the wall but their lad double bluffed me and it went the other side.

"We have to take things on to Tuesday now. Walsall are a very good team in very good form but hopefully we can go there and get the win. They have some excellent players but if we can keep it tight at the back I am sure we will create chances.

"Walsall have a lot of experience but we have some very good young players and we can take heart from our display in the first FA Cup meeting and we can take our renewed confidence on from Saturday.

"We have been practising penalties should it go that far on Tuesday. I am sure we will take a good following to Walsall on Tuesday and we are looking forward to it.

"I have been having a little bit of a problem with my groin muscles in the last few weeks but I have been working with physio Stuart Barker to improve things and they are getting better and stronger."
