SAMPSON DELIGHTED WITH RETURN OF DUO
Ian Sampson was delighted to report that both Giles Coke and Chris Doig got through the reserve team win over Southend United without any problems.
"Firstly I was delighted with the win," he said.
"Giles came through nearly an hour and it was good to see him back out on a football pitch.
"He was a little bit rusty but he'll be boosted from the playing time he got and I think his confidence will be sky high at the moment.
"When you've been out with a long-term injury all you want to do is play again so I am sure he was really looking forward to playing in this game and he did OK.
"He's been back in training with us for a few weeks now and although his fitness is obviously still a bit short we've got another reserve game next week and hopefully he can maybe progress to playing the full 90 minutes in that one.
"Chris Doig came through the game OK and I'm sure he is going to make himself available for selection on Saturday up at Oldham.
"He's been out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury and getting 90 minutes in this game certainly won't have done him any harm.
"Shan Goodall is always a threat and he took his two goals ever so well.
"His first was a good finish with his left foot and for the second he was first to the rebound after his initial shot had been blocked.
"I'm delighted for Shaun, he's been out on a work experience registration at Woodford United playing in senior football to toughen him up a bit. I think that has worked and we were delighted with his two goals.
"I don't think we played as well in the second half as we did in the first but we got two goals in the second half and only one in the first and that's how funny football is at times."
