Alex Russell's first loan period expires shortly, but Cobblers boss Stuart Gray is hopeful of keeping him at the club.

"Alex Russell's loan spell is up after our game at Millwall on Tuesday night but we'd love to keep him here for at least another month," said the Cobblers boss.

"I've been speaking to Alex and Gary Johnson at Bristol City about extending his loan and hopefully we can do that next week with Bristol having a 24-hour re-call option on him.

"He has been a real calming influence on the team, he reads the game well and he passes the ball early. He's slotted into the side nicely, he's got a good work ethic and some of his good habits have definitely rubbed off on some of the younger players."

Meanwhile, despite some media reports to the contrary, Sam Aiston's loan spell at Burton Albion has NOT been extended this week. He joined Burton on a 2 month loan on August 31, all that has happened is that the loan has completed it's first month and moved into it's second, but no extension to the original loan agreement has taken place.
