A Football League tribunal in London has decided that Northampton Town must pay Mansfield Town a package worth up to £70,000 for midfielder Giles Coke.

The Stags were demanding £175,000 plus a sell on fee for the player who rejected a new contract at Field Mill and moved to Sixfields in the summer. Because he is under 24 a fee is payable for his services, but the two clubs were unable to agree a fee with the Cobblers refusing to meet Mansfield's asking price.

£15,000 of the tribunal fixed package is payable immediately, with another £7,500 payable in October and another £7,500 in January 2008.

In addition, £40,000 is payable based on appearances made up of £10,000 after 10, 20, 30 and 40 appearances for the club.

The tribunal also awarded Mansfield a 20% sell on clause.

"We had a fair hearing and this is roughly what we expected to pay," said Chairman David Cardoza who was part of the Cobblers representation at the hearing in London, along with boss Stuart Gray and club staff.

"We thank the tribunal for listening to our case and for their time. What is important for us now is that we continue to work with Giles to get him fit and ready for first team football as soon as possible.

"We know that Giles is a quality player and we are looking forward to seeing him pull on a Northampton Town shirt."
