Danny Jackman is looking forward to the benefit of pre-season training rather more than the actual taking part.

"I think any player who enjoys pre-season is fibbing!," he joked. "But it is good to get your fitness back and you feel much better for it.

"I had a close season programme sent to me by the club and I have been following that so I am in good shape.

"At the end of last season I was offered a 2 year contract at Gillingham and I also had the chance to come here. I knew Stuart Gray from Aston Villa and I was impressed with what he had to say so I made the move here and the chance to work with him again was the main factor in my move.

"I am a left sided player who is mainly a left back but I can fill in elsewhere if required. If we get a good start then who knows where it will take us.

"It is a tough league to play in, this will be my fourth season at this level so I know what it is all about.

"It is always a bit tense at the start of pre-season but the lads have made me feel very welcome and that has helped me settle in.

"I have played against Ian Henderson before. He is difficult to mark as he is a fit lad who is good on the ball.

"I was impressed with the Northampton side last year and hopefully we can continue the progress from the end of last season."
