LARKIN PLEASED TO BE A COBBLER

Posted on: Fri 29 Jun 2007

New Northampton Town striker Colin Larkin was in high spirits after putting pen to paper on a 2 year contract at Sixfields.

"It is great to have my future sorted out. I can't wait for pre-season to start and get things under way," he said.

"I have played against Northampton a few times over the last few years. There was that play off semi final where I was brought down by Ashley Westwood late in the first leg when he was sent off, and then I scored the winning penalty in the second leg but I hope the fans will forgive me for that!

"I almost came here before when Colin Calderwood showed an interest, but things didn't quite work out then. This time they have, and I am delighted.

"Since the end of last season I had been talking to Chesterfield and a couple of other clubs. I went home to Ireland for a few weeks to have a break and I got a message from Stuart Gray and as soon as I knew of his interest I jumped at the chance to join the club.

"I am excited about this new challenge and I am desperate to do well. I have heard really good reports about Stuart and the way he works. I was really keen to stay in League One and to do so with a club like Northampton Town and for a manager like Stuart is terrific for me and I am so keen to repay the faith Stuart has put in me.

"I don't know too many of the lads here because it is a fairly young squad but I do know there is a lot of ability here. I know Fred Murray who has had a really bad injury but I think he is joining in with pre-season training and I have played against Ian Sampson a few times in the past. I have told him that all he did was kick me back then, but maybe that was because he couldn't catch me!"
