DOIG IN TRIBUTE TO COBBLERS BOSS
Chris Doig admits he is pleased to have resolved his future - and admitted the Stuart Gray factor was a big part of his decision to stay at Sixfields.
"I am really happy to have sorted this new contract out," he said. "I have enjoyed the last two years here and I am pleased that I will be staying here.
"I have been impressed by Stuart Gray and the way he is building a decent squad here. I am very ambitious and I know that Stuart and the Chairman are, and hopefully those ambitions can be fulfilled in the seasons ahead.
"I am pleased that my future has been sorted out early. I did not want things dragging on throughout the summer and now I am looking forward to enjoying a break, working on the summer fitness programmes we have been given and then coming back to work hard in pre-season in July.
"We have the basis of a very good squad here and you get the feeling that the club is heading in the right direction. I am determined to play my part in helping that progress continue over at least the next 2 seasons.
"I did have a number of other offers to go elsewhere and could have moved on, but I have really enjoyed working with Stuart Gray and he has impressed me. I am confident he will continue to make us a better team and me a better player and I want to carry on working with him.
"Stuart Gray was a major factor in me signing this new contract and I think under him we have a really good chance of progressing."
