HUNT MAKES SHREWS SWITCH

Posted on: Tue 15 May 2007

Northampton Town midfielder David Hunt has mutually agreed with the club to leave Sixfields and has signed for Shrewsbury Town.

The free transfer signing from Leyton Orient in the spring of 2005 made over 80 appearances for the Cobblers.

"David's last contract had a clause in it that said if he played 23 games last season he would be automatically be entitled to a new one year deal and so we made an offer to David that was in accordance with that clause," said Cobblers boss Stuart Gray.

"That offer was for a new 12 month contract but David wanted a longer deal which was not on the table here and, while we could have held him to the clause on last year's contract if we had wanted to, he has decided to seek a new opportunity elsewhere which given the above, is in the best interests of all concerned.

"I would like to thank David for his effort and commitment here. As one player leaves, it opens up opportunities for others and as a decision has been made early, it gives me a chance to look at bringing someone in and strengthening us in that area. We wish David well at Shrewsbury."
