HUGHES ON ROVERS GOAL

Posted on: Sun 06 May 2007

Mark Hughes admitted he felt it was his duty to go forward and score an equaliser for the Cobblers at Doncaster on Saturday.

"It was the least I could do," he said. "I hold my hand up that I was at fault for their first goal. I should have just headed the ball away but I got caught. It was a good game at Doncaster and we felt we should have won it with the chances we had in the second half.

"People pay good money to travel and watch us and we didn't want to go through the motions in our last game. Since I have been here the fans have been great to me and the team and the least we could do was give them a good send off for the summer.

"We have some good characters out there and although we were behind twice we always thought we could come back. I enjoyed my goal, it was a pity it was my fault for their first goal but I will learn from that.

"We thanked the loan lads in the dressing room after the game and we said we hope it was not the last we see of them.

"I am not looking forward to the fitness tests we are doing this week but after that we have our summer holidays to enjoy.

"I have always got a few goals when I have played. I have ended the season as top scorer for Everton reserves and when I go forward I am determined to not just make up the numbers but to get involved as well."
