Northampton Town have agreed to sign Gillingham defender Danny Jackman under the Bosman ruling. Jackman, who has signed a 2 year contract, will officially become a Cobblers player from July 1.

The 24 year old left back, who can also play left midfield, started his career with Aston Villa. He left Villa without making a first team appearance and after enjoying a loan spell at Cambridge United, he joined Stockport County for a £70,000 fee.

In 2 years at Edgeley Park, he made 66 appearances, scoring 4 goals. He left Stockport in the summer of 2005 to move to Gillingham, where he has made 78 appearances in 2 years, collecting the Players Player and Supporter of the Year awards in 2006.

Despite being only 24, he has already made more than 150 career appearances. He is currently away on holiday and will officially be presented to the media at the start of pre-season training.
