A WEEKEND IN SOUTH WALES!

Posted on: Thu 20 Aug 2009

Last month, Community Manager Russell Lewis and Kevin Rootes went with 15 players from Northampton Town Multi-Disabled Club for a football weekend away in South Wales.

The mini bus left Sixfields on the Friday afternoon and reached our destination at 8 o'clock in the evening. Everyone was very grateful to the parents who had arrived earlier in the day and put all the tents up. After a good night's sleep everyone was ready to travel into Swansea for our game against Swansea Bravehearts. All the matches were played indoors and conducted in a great spirit.

The Bravehearts and Gary Richards were as usual the perfect hosts and looked after us very well. After the excellent lunch we went to watch the Swansea City first team play Middlesbrough in the Championship. The Liberty stadium is a fantastic venue and all the players enjoyed the experience.

After the drive back to the Gower Sports Club, there was a players v coaches/parents cricket match on Port Eynon beach. The coaches/parents where convincing winners, the players where unable to cope with Kev's fast bowling!

From the beach it was up the local fish shop to place the 30 fish and chip orders, then all the players went along to dance to the music of Neil Diamond at the Gower Social Club. After an early start we made our way to Haverfordwest to play in the South Wales Football Festival.

The Festival was a superb event with all the players enjoying themselves and both teams played some excellent football representing their club very well. After the festival there was a long drive back to Northampton and we arrived at Sixfields at 8.30pm.

Special thank yous to Greenfields School and Tim Marston for the use of the mini bus, Swansea Bravehearts and Gary Richards for organising the matches, Swansea City for the tickets, all the parents who came along and gave excellent support to everybody, Gower Sports Club for embracing our players and Kevin who does a fantastic job in driving the mini bus, managing a team and that fantastic spell of fast bowling on the beach!!
