AN ELECTRIC ATMOSPHERE
He concurred, and from speaking to other Cobblers fans in various Nottingham 'night spots' later than evening, it would appear the atmosphere in the old Bridgford End was electric.
That didn't look like being the case when the side went behind relatively early in the first half to Lewis McGugan's excellent goal.
Forest could - and probably should - have scored more before half-time, but when the gap is only a single goal, you always have a chance.
For the team to play with such spirit after the interval, against a side with such huge spending power, who really shouldn't be in this league, and who have easily the best side in it, will have given everyone connected with the club, but especially the players, a huge sense of pride.
For what it's worth I still think Forest will get promoted this season, if for no other reason than they've got too much quality not to. Think of it as being the opposite situation to when they were called 'too good to go down' from the Premiership all those years ago.
I don't think they're a good team, though. They've got good players, but there's a difference between that and being a good team. Scunthorpe last season were a good team, a unit whose sum was vastly greater than its parts.
Player-for-player you won't find a better 11 at this level, and I don't think there has been many as good in the last few years. Kris Commons, for example, should certainly be playing at a higher level, although if you happen to pick this programme up after the January transfer window, he may well be.
So to have come so close to beating them was in itself a great achievement, and one which simply must have given the players a big psychological boost ahead of the always-hectic festive schedule.
