Returnee Luke Guttridge and Byron Webster both came into the Northampton Town side for the trip to in-form Torquay United. Adebayo Akinfenwa and Ben Tozer dropped to the bench.

Luke Guttridge played in Saido Berahino on 8 minutes but the on-loan West Brom striker's effort was well saved by Bobby Olejnik at the second attempt. The Cobblers were enjoying a good spell of pressure with Aidy Boothroyd's side putting together some neat passages of play in the Torquay half.

Byron Webster was shown a yellow card on 36 minutes for a tug-back on Rene Howe.

Despite their first half dominance which had seen Town force a number of corners the scoreline remained deadlocked at the break.

Chris Weale pulled off a smart stop to deny Rene Howe on 57 minutes with Howe having raced through to be one-on-one with the Cobblers keeper. Olejnik denied Berahino at the other end with the striker having once again been fed in by Guttridge.

Aidy Boothroyd made his first change on 70 minutes with Ryan Gilligan coming on for Luke Guttridge.

Torquay took the lead with 15 minutes of the game remaining, Mark Ellis heading in from a corner.

Adebayo Akinfenwa replaced John Johnson as the Cobblers looked to push forward for an equaliser. Jason Crowe then made way for Ben Tozer.

The Gulls saw out four minutes of stoppage time to claim all three points and a fifth successive victory.
