Northampton Town welcomed Doncaster Rovers to Sixfields for this Coca-Cola League One fixture.

This was the Cobblers first home league game in more than a month, and John Gorman made one change to the team that had drawn 0-0 at Chesterfield in midweek, Eoin Jess replacing David Hunt. Ian Taylor returned to the substitutes bench after injury.

Rovers came into the match in form, having lost only one of their previous fourteen games, and they started with confidence, Mark McCammon curling the first effort of the game into the arms of Mark Bunn after five minutes.

Nick Wright sparked off a fine Cobblers move after nine minutes, sending in a cross field ball that eventually found Pedj Bojic whose shot was only an inch over Neil Sullivan's cross bar.

Mark McCammon raced through beyond the Cobblers defence on fifteen minutes and although he looked offside, the flag was not raised. He continued through clear on goal and was only denied by a superb recovering tackle from Andy Holt.

Mark Bunn was called into action on twenty minutes, making a smart reaction save to get down low and hold a shot on the turn from Jonathan Forte, before Jason Price shot over the bar from the edge of the area following a lay back from Paul Green.

The Cobblers had to wait twenty eight minutes for their first free kick of the game, and when it came, for a push on Pedj Bojic, it was greeted with ironic applause from the West Stand.

Joe Burnell shot over the bar following a good spell of Cobblers pressure, before Nick Wright ended a thirty yard run with a powerful shot that was held by Sullivan.

Wright then produced an excellent cross from the right that Andy Kirk volleyed first time towards goal, only to see Neil Sullivan pull off an excellent finger tip save to touch the ball over the bar and ensure that the first half ended goalless.

Wright's persistence created an opening for Andy Kirk three minutes into the second half. The Birmingham loan man won the ball back from Graeme Lee and released Andy Kirk beyond the Rovers defence, the Cobblers striker only being denied by the feet of Sullivan.

Jason Crowe was the first man booked when he held back Mark McCammon, before Bunn had to rush quickly off his line to bravely deny the big Rovers striker as he looked to get on to a through ball from James O'Connor.

Jonathan Forte shot wide of the far post, before the Cobblers made a double change - Ryan Gilligan on for Nick Wright and Ian Taylor replacing Pedj Bojic.

Sean O'Driscoll responded by bringing on Paul Heffernan for Jason Price.

Mark Bunn beat away a powerful twenty five yard shot from Paul Green on seventy one minutes, but four minutes later the visitors had the lead.

The last in a succession of corners for Rovers was played in and after the cross had caused confusion in the Cobblers box, Paul Heffernan was in the right place to glance the ball home at the far post.

John Gorman's side tried to respond, and Jason Crowe's low drive was held by Sullivan, and Ryan Gilligan met Andy Holt's left wing cross and although he brought the ball down with a lovely first touch, he could not get the required power into the header to beat the former Scotland international.

Lewis Guy came on for Jonathan Forte as Rovers made their second change, while soon afterwards Mark Wilson replaced James Coppinger.

Rovers made the game save with four minutes to play when Lewis Guy picked up the ball following a very rare mistake from Luke Chambers and broke clear of the defence. He drove forward and supplied a powerful finish that gave Bunn no chance and ended the game as a contest.
