Northampton Town kicked off a busy Easter weekend with a trip to the capital to meet Leyton Orient. Stuart Gray made three changes to the side beaten by Brighton. David Hunt replaced Ian Taylor in midfield, while up front Andy Kirk and Simon Cox came in for Kenny Deuchar and Jordan Robertson.

On a sunny Easter Saturday afternoon the Cobblers had the lead after twelve minutes with a first senior goal for Simon Cox. A delightful chipped through ball from Ryan Gilligan found the Reading loan man in the area and he sent in a first time half volley beyond Glyn Garner.

Two minutes later, Alex Pearce saw his header from David Hunt's free kick saved by the Orient keeper, while Mark Bunn's first save of note came on twenty seven minutes when he got behind a twenty yard shot from Gary Alexander.

Alexander headed wide for the home side on thirty three minutes, before the Cobblers doubled their lead on forty minutes. Andy Kirk played in Simon Cox and his cross shot was turned home at the far post by Jason Crowe.

In the five minutes of added time following a lengthy delay to allow Adam Chambers to have treatment earlier in the half, Mark Hughes made a very good block to get in the way of a powerful drive from Ryan Jarvis. That ensured the Cobblers left the field two goals to the good at the interval.

Martin Ling made a change at half time with Jabo Ibehre coming on for Aiden Palmer.

Gary Alexander's shot on the turn was just wide six minutes after the break, while at the other end Glyn Garner had to be quickly off his line to beat Jason Crowe to David Hunt's through ball.

Mark Bunn

A neat Cobblers move on fifty nine minutes saw Ryan Gilligan's chip go just beyond the far post after he was played in by Hunt, before Stuart Gray made his first change by bringing Kenny Deuchar on for Andy Kirk.

Ryan Jarvis hit Mark Bunn's cross bar with a sixty sixth minute volley before Martin Ling's second change saw Derek Duncan replace Wayne Corden.

Jason Demetriou came on for Tudor with eleven minutes to play, while for the Cobblers Jordan Robertson replaced Cox.

Kenny Deuchar met Mark Bunn's long goal kick with a header towards goal that Garner tipped away for a corner, while from the second phase of play from that flag kick Mark Hughes headed Jordan Robertson's cross narrowly wide.

A minimum of six added minutes were shown on the fourth official's board, (seven were played) but despite Orient sending men forward in that time the Cobblers lead was never really threatened and they made the perfect start to the Easter weekend.
