** SPONSORS MAN OF THE MATCH
Two of Coca-Cola League 2's form teams met at Sixfields on a mild January afternoon. The Cobblers had lost just one of their previous twelve league games, while Brian Horton's Macclesfield Town had only been beaten once in their last 10 matches. Colin Calderwood's only change from the side that won at Leyton Orient was enforced - Pedj Bojic replaced groin injury victim Sean Dyche.

Jason Lee was close to a dream start in his first match at Sixfields. A deep Pedj Bojic cross after just twenty five seconds saw Lee volley towards goal, only to be denied by a finger tip save from Alan Fettis.
Danny Whitaker picked up a fifth minute through ball from Alan Navarro and chipped his shot just beyond the far post in Macc's first attack, while moments later Clyde Wijnhard fired over the bar after joining up well with Martin Bullock.
Ian Taylor, Josh Low and Jason Crowe linked up neatly on the Cobblers right after twelve minutes in a move that ended with the latter's shot being held by Fettis, before Paul Harsley curled a twenty five yard free kick over the bar.

Andy Kirk broke clear of the Macclesfield defence after thirty one minutes but was denied by a clear finger tip save from Fettis, bizarrely awarded as a goal kick by the referee.
The Cobblers had the lead ten minutes before the break. Josh Low showed great patience to deliver two crosses in to the Macclesfield box after the first ball had been kept alive by Pedj Bojic and Andy Kirk. From the inviting second delivery Ian Taylor rose highest at the far post to head home.
That lead was doubled just two minutes later. Low's cross was deflected behind and while David Hunt's corner was headed towards goal by Scott McGleish, Andy Kirk was there to turn the ball home with his head from close range.
Scott McGleish saw his low drive saved by the finger tips of Fettis as the first half drew to a close with the Cobblers leading 2-0.

At half time Brian Horton made a change, with Kevin Townson replacing Kevin McIntyre.
Andy Kirk turned Pedj Bojic's cross goalwards four minutes after the break but Fettis made the save, before the lively Northern Ireland international curled over the bar cutting in from the right.
Townson shot wide of Harper's goal from the edge of the area for the Silkmen, before Colin Calderwood's side extended their lead. Jason Lee held the ball up for Andy Kirk who released Josh Low with an inch perfect pass. Low delivered another quality delivery that Scott McGleish converted at the near post.
Pedj Bojic sent in a left wing cross shot that hit the top of the cross bar, before Martin Smith came on for Scott McGleish.

Kevin Sandwith was the first man booked when he became the latest to clatter in to Josh Low, who was giving the Macclesfield defence a torrid time.
John Miles replaced Alan Navarro, while Eoin Jess came on for David Hunt in the Cobblers second change.
Martin Smith performed his entry for Soccer AM's show boat feature with a double keepy up and then a volley that just didn't quite dip enough to trouble Fettis, while at the other end Chris Doig did well to clear off the line from John Miles after the Macc striker had poked the ball beyond Lee Harper.
David Rowson replaced Jason Lee with eight minutes to play before having a part to play as the lead was extended to 4-0. Rowson delivered a superb cross from the right that Ian Taylor headed home to score his second of the afternoon.

Andy Kirk was on hand to complete the rout in injury time, slotting home on the turn from a slide rule Rowson pass.
The Cobblers saw the rest of the game out to record a fine victory with a professional performance, denting the Silkmen's good recent run in the process.
