Ian Sampson was delighted to see his team record their fourth successive victory with a 2-0 win against Darlington at Sixfields on Saturday.

"I thought we controlled the game in the first half and at 2-0 up at half-time we looked pretty comfortable," he said.

"We didn't play particularly well in the second half, Darlington gave it a go as they had to and we just got a little bit sloppy.

"We didn't pass the ball very well in the second half and the wind made things a bit tricky but the most important thing for us was just to get the three points.

"We are up into seventh now and that's what we have been aiming for. I think the automatic places may be a little bit beyond us but we have now got teams above us who we can aim for.

"We have got ourselves into a decent position and if we can keep keeping clean sheets then we will give ourselves a good chance.

"We want to consolidate our position in the play-offs, I think we have played pretty much the same number of games as everyone else around us in the table now and we just need to try and win as many games as we can between now and the end of the season.

"The momentum is with us at the moment, we've won four games on the bounce now and I think when you do get on a little run like that teams do become a bit apprehensive about playing you.

"I thought Alex Dyer was neat and tidy, he tired a bit towards the end of the game but he is a good little footballer and we were pleased with the way he played.

"Ryan Gilligan picked up a knee injury in training at the end of the week. It has settled down well in the last 48 hours and we hope it won't be too serious.

"We've got a good squad and at this stage of the season it is very important to make sure that the players get enough rest. Our pitch is quite heavy at the moment so that takes a lot out of the players but I'm sure everyone will play their part between now and the end of the season."
